Our Mission

Founded in 1972, the Pacific Palisades Historical Society has focused on preserving the heritage and culture of our community and the stories of its founding families. The membership based, non-profit organization works to:

  • Locate and collect local historical material

  • Landmark local sites and buildings of historical significance

  • Publish books related to the history of Pacific Palisades

  • Provide educational programs on the historical heritage of Pacific Palisades

and helps to encourage the teaching
of our local history.

Our Story

The Pacific Palisades Historical Society currently owns and maintains Founders Oak Island, the small park in the 900 block of Haverford Avenue. Considered the modern birthplace of Pacific Palisades, Founders Oak Island is the location where the story of the Palisades as we know it today all began.

Pacific Palisades Historical Society has archived and catalogued over 3,000 historical photos that are housed at the Santa Monica Public Library, and are available to the public worldwide. As well, the Historical Society has facilitated the transfer of the Marquez Family Photography Collection to the Huntington Library in Pasadena.

We encourage the teaching of local history as well as promoting the care and perpetuation of the community’s historic legacy.
